Cross‑Reference Table between ISO/IEC 17020:2026 and ISO/IEC 17020:2012

For many inspection bodies, it will be important to understand the changes introduced in ISO/IEC 17020:2026 compared with the previous edition, ISO/IEC 17020:2012, in order to update their established management systems accordingly. In response to this need, I decided to prepare the first cross-reference table of the standard and make it available to all interested parties worldwide, including accreditation bodies, inspection bodies, ISO/IEC 17020 assessors, consultants, and trainers.

In the column related to the clause/subclause title or subject for the 2026 edition of the standard, an effort has been made to include the original clause titles stated in the standard for the main clauses, while for the subclauses, the general subject or intended requirement of the standard has been summarized. Opposite each entry, it is indicated which equivalent clause existed in the 2012 edition or whether the requirement has been introduced for the first time in the 2026 edition of the standard.

The changes identified in the final column titled “Description” indicate the nature of the change. These may represent a new requirement in the standard, a change in clause numbering, a minor modification, or a major revision to the text of the standard. Accordingly, this table can be used to review and evaluate the status of the clauses within the standard.
